TIKUMBE OPERATIONAL SITE
Tikumbe, or OB11, is located within the Central African Copperbelt (CACB) of Zambia and the DRC Congo. It sits 20Km from Chingola town, along the Mimbula Fitula belt. The Copperbelt is famous as the world’s largest and richest grade, sedimentary hosted copper deposit.
The Old Dump site OB11 25MT was created from Fitula Open Pit material which could not be further refined as the material was below the processing Cutoff Grade, reflecting the available technology at the time.
The site is extensive as it contains Copper (and other metals) where the initial extraction costs have already been expended and are therefore sunk.
But identifying the spoil with the highest potential and then extracting the prize requires business acumen, and cutting-edge operational capability. Exploitation requires skills in sampling, extraction and processing. At Zumran we have that skills’ profile and experience.
As part of our Development Plan to become one of the largest and most profitable Copper producers in Zambia, we embarked on a technically driven programme in 2020, to identify and exploit the reserves in a phased approach:
Phase 1: Selective drilling of the site to identify the resource profile
Phase 2: Based on the results we designed, implemented and commissioned an extraction and processing plant which targets oxidized reserves. This integrated process employs Heap Leaching, Agitation Leach Circuit and an SX/EX (Solvent Extraction and Electrowinning) process to produce Copper Cathodes. Tikumbe is now on the path to produce 3,600MT of Cathodes annually.
Phase 3: Targets Zumran is fully committed towards its people centric values through employing people from local community and a Qualified Zambian technical team. Looking at the success of the current operation we are planning for a massive expansion of this project. Implementation in Mid / late 2022.
